Our interactive engagements give voice to those who want to shape their neighborhood while helping them pragmatically understand and wrestle with the realities of what the market can actually produce.

Community Engagement

Aligning Leadership

Long-term solutions start with community voices. We help communities identify opportunity sites and navigate the tradeoffs of building in different locations through facilitated conversations, mapping exercises, and open discussions.

Meeting People Where They’re At

In Leelanau and Benzie counties, we facilitated a community-led conversation about housing opportunity sites. By centering local perspectives, we created a shared vision for housing that aligns future development with community needs and priorities, ensuring growth is both strategic and widely supported.

Communal Value Discovery

Personalize the Abstract

Stories make complex issues tangible for decision-makers and the public. Capturing firsthand accounts of public servants, aspiring young professionals, and hospitality entrepreneurs whose businesses—and lives—have been impacted by the lack of housing options can transform abstract data into real-world narratives.

Bring Housing Stories to Life

Data and policy can feel distant—but personal stories make the housing crisis real. By centering real voices, we help communities connect emotionally to the need for housing solutions. These stories don’t just inform—they inspire action.

Simplify the Complex

In Grand Rapids, we designed interactive boards for the planning department’s proposed zoning amendments. Visualizing the proposed amendments created accessible, approachable examples of what these changes would mean in the real world: moving them from theory to practice. This approach contributed to the successful passage of six zoning amendments that expanded housing options.

Translate
“Housing Speak”

We translate technical reforms into plain language, equipping decision-makers to take informed action and fostering public understanding and support.

“Inspirational” is the one word to describe Ryan Kilpatrick’s presentation to the manufactured housing industry at our annual conference. He provided insight, data, and ammunition to combat Nimbyism. He provided Real tools to get attainable housing projects off the ground with less hassle.
